Bank of Tokyo at Roberto Clemente Garden

Friday August 12th was a busy day at the Roberto Clemente Community Garden. With the assistance of 25 volunteers from the Bank of Tokyo we built two picnic tables and four benches.  We also waterproofed the gazebo and planted lots of perennials and annuals in the flower bed along the front of the garden.  Thanks so much to all of our volunteers and gardeners, the garden looks amazing!

Rat Workshops Offered in Community Gardens

Last night’s workshop, held at All People’s Garden, was the first of a series of Rat Workshops that will be offered by the heath department in Bronx and Manhattan Land Trusts’ gardens (Check out a news article about last night’s workshop here).  These workshops provide information on how to inspect, prevent, and respond to rats in your gardens and neighborhoods.  Furthermore, these workshops touch on garden-specific issues, like how to keep compost piles from attracting rats.  There is another workshop coming up on Wednesday, July 6 at 7:30pm.  It will be held at Clayton Williams Community Garden located at the corner of West 126th Street and 8th Avenue.  Please RSVP early in order to reserve a free rat-proof garbage can.  RSVP to Erica Packard at 212-228-5482, or email erica_packard@yahoo.com.  Another workshop is being scheduled in July for the Bronx.  The workshops are FREE.  For information and resources about how to prevent rats in your garden and neighborhood check out www.nyc.gov/rats.

Daly Avenue Work Day and Workshop

Daly Avenue Community Garden was bustling on a gorgeous Saturday afternoon as gardeners worked on a variety of projects throughout the garden and as Bronx Green-Up conducted a workshop.  Gardeners painted the back wall of the garden, filled some beds with soil, cleaned up brush and trash, and planted some perennials.  The garden is looking amazing and the vegetables are doing great so far!
